Tinea faciei

History

          A 21-year-old female presented with a unilateral, well-demarcated, itchy, red scaly plaque with an active more scaly and slightly elevated border involved most of the left side of the face of four months duration. Based on a wrong diagnosis topical corticosteroids had been prescribed and used by the patient for more than two months. KOH examination at time of presentation yielded fungal hyphae and spores. The condition was cured with oral griseofulvin therapy for six weeks.

Tinea faciei

History

          A 35-year-old man presented with an itchy, red, scaly rash involved the butterfly region of the face of two months duration. The rash had an active slightly elevated scaly border and clear center. KOH smear showed fungal elements. Cure was obtained through 6 weeks course of griseofulvin 500 mg twice daily.

Kerion

History

          A 7-year-old child from a rural area had long time contact with domestic animals presented with a boggy mass on the occipital scalp of one month duration. The mass was tender, crusted, studded with many pustules and associated with hair loss and suboccipital lymph nodes enlargement.

History

          An 18-year-old male living in a rural area had long contact with domestic animals presented with a large, rounded, pinkish, oozing nodule with pus exuding from the orifices of hair follicles of more than one month duration on the side of the neck. It was associated with partial hair loss and retroauricular lymphadenopathy.

Tinea corporis

History

      A middle-aged housewife presented with an irregular-shaped red scaly patch composed of few concentric rings on the extensor aspect of the forearm of three months duration. She gave history of previous tinea corporis involved a nearby area to the present lesion which had been successfully treated one year ago.

History

          A middle-aged-woman presented with pruritic, circinate, erythematous, scaly patches involved major part of the face of three months duration. KOH prepared scales showed many fungal hyphae and spores. Treatment with oral griseofulvin was successful.

Tinea corporis

History

       A 5-year-old boy presented with pruritic red scaly patches on the side of the trunk of three months duration. The lesions had more active scaly borders. KOH examintion of the scales was positive for fungi. No history of contact with animals and no similar family history.

          A solitary, circinate, red scaly plaque studded with pustules having well-defined border of one month duration. Excellent response to twice daily applications of combined topical Clotrimazole and Fusidic acid creams for 4 weeks.
